National Swimming League Rd2

Round 2 of the National Swimming League took place on Saturday 8th November at our home pool, Central Park Plymouth. Devonport were hosts with strong opposition from Swindon, Wells and Shepton Mallet, Weymouth and Cirencester.

Jason Fotoloupos swam an impressive race in the 13/u 50m backstroke to take first place. This was shortly followed by Kirsty Dinham in the Ladies open 100m backstroke with another excellent win.

Jess Fennel swam well to take second place in the Ladies open 100m IM.

Aimee O’Halloran took second place in the 11/u50m breaststroke after a very close race.

Jason was just beaten into second place in the 13/u 50m butterfly.

Sam Bowden 15/u and Jess Fennel Ladies open both held on to second place in their 100m freestyle races with two great swims.

The girl’s 13/u relay team of Rebecca Ward, Rachel Ward, Victoria Philpot and Lauren Parker took an excellent second place in both their medley relay and freestyle relay.

Swindon took the lead from the start finishing on 230 points. Wells and Shepton Mallet had 164 points, Weymouth 123 points and Devonport finished joint fourth with Cirencester on 112 points.

Well done to all the swimmers who performed so well, and a big thank-you to the poolside helpers and parents in the balcony.

Coaches comment.

It was great to be able swim at home in a gala like this. We were racing against some very strong teams. Scores between 3rd, 4th & 5th place teams were very close and I felt we were unlucky not to have claimed 4th or even possibly 3rd place.

The swimmers didn’t let the opposition get the better of them and focused on giving it their all. It was great to see the same aggression we displayed at Frome. We must now focus  on the training ahead and continue to build on the aggression and strength needed for the final round.

It was commented on how much stronger you all looked on the final lengths of your races. This is a result of your hard work in training sessions.

Well done to all the swimmers for all your effort and for keeping positive throughout the gala.emoticon
